Mark Cuban Could Be Texas Rangers Owner
Trace Cuban will bid to become owner of the Texas Rangers now. Notice Cuban as owner of the Texas Rangers sounds like an interesting scenario, and it is entirely possible as the sale of the Texas Rangers franchise moves forward. According to ESPN, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban could be among the bidders as the auction gets started, and that he does indeed hope to submit a competitive bid for the prefer of the team. This could possibly give Cuban ownership of two large franchises in Texas, and spread out his business plan across two major sports.
If Cuban were to bid on the Texas Rangers and come away as the winner, he wouldn’t be the first person to own two major sports franchises. He would definitely become the most recognizable, though, and this isn’t the first time that he has tried to buy his way into Major League Baseball. Cuban was also a suitor of the Chicago Cubs when the team went up for sale a few years back, and, though he didn’t buy the team, he proved that he could put together the funds necessary to make the consume. Having his name out there in another bidding process before this one can only help him in the whole process.
The Texas Rangers is a bankrupt franchise right now, and, as such, are going to be set aside up for auction by a bankruptcy judge. That auction will assume place on Aug. 4, and should provide an interesting back-drop for where this franchise is heading. Creditors are trying to put a stop to the auction in order for more bidders to get money together, but that won’t be happening at this time, it appears. One of the bidders who will be in competition with Cuban is a group led by Nolan Ryan, which has an offer of $575 million that will be on the table first when Aug. 4 rolls around.
It’s an interesting concept to think that an exciting owner such as Mark Cuban could own a baseball franchise, but it also comes with a few questions that certainly a lot of people in the world of baseball must piece. Cuban owns a basketball team in the form of the Dallas Mavericks, and is always trying to improve that roster through trades and free agent signings. Well, baseball works a bit differently, with the minor league system and the importance of developing players taken in the MLB Draft. Could Cuban be able to retract the slowed-down approach needed to build a successful Major League franchise?
Maybe Cuban would have it easy with a young Texas Rangers roster all-ready, but he seems determined to get his foot in the door as soon as possible with a baseball team. Maybe this is the shot in the arm that baseball could really utilize good now, because we certainly know that Cuban would be vocal at games, unlike many other owners in the sport.
