Which Video Game Companies Deserved A Bailout

Not even the video game industry, which had a record-setting year in 2008, is immune to the current economic recession. Many gaming companies are suffering from heavy losses, filing for bankruptcy or closing shop altogether. These companies wouldn’t mind a bailout from the government. Here are five video game companies that deserved to be bailed out.

Square Enix

Once one of the powerhouses of the gaming industry, Square Enix is now struggling to remain relevant. The Japanese giant hasn’t released a accurate sequel to one of their three most popular franchises (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts) in years. In fact, they haven’t done anything noteworthy since the Playstation 2 was still the dominant console on the market. Square Enix desperately needs a bailout in order to obtain their two most anticipated games, Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII, out on time after years of development.

Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts used to be the most hated gaming company in the industry due to their persistence at buying out competitors and lacking passion to innovate. However, they have quickly changed their ways by publishing some of the most innovative titles (Swear Blox, Dead Space, Mirror’s Edge and Spore) in recent years. While Electronic Arts may have changed their stripes, they are suffering heavy losses. To prevent Electronic Arts from going help to their old ways, the government must bail them out.

Sony

Sony has been on top of the gaming industry for a decade with the Playstation and Playstation 2. However, it all came crashing down for them with the release of the Playstation 3. They aesthetic much lost all the money they made so far in the industry. Still, Sony is worth saving with a bailout because of their numerous contributions to the gaming industry: free online, quality games and the advent of the Playstation Network.

Sega

Sega looked for greener pastures when they drop out of the gaming hardware business. In spite of that dramatic maneuver, their fortune mild hasn’t change. While they may be losing money, Sega is smooth one of the best publishers on the market with quality titles like Valkyrie Chronicles, MadWorld and the Yakuza series. Not to mention that a bailout can also give Sega the financial need to develop another video game system, which many hardcore fans collected hunger for.

Atlus

Although Atlus may not be in as huge financial have as the other companies on the list, they still deserve a grand bailout. This is because they are almost single-handily keeping the niche and hardcore market alive and well. Without Atlus, we wouldn’t be playing the greatest and quirkiest Japanese games. For that reason alone, Atlus should get a bailout from the government.
